At first glance I thought that this application had to do with numbers, and so I wasn’t too keen on it. But I discovered that even though Ten Squared does have numbers in it, it is more of calculating moves than calculating digits, and it is a whole lot of fun.
The graphics are amazing, and being particularly partial to pencil and paper visuals, I was mighty pleased with it. But graphics alone do not make a game great, so let’s see what the game play is like.
Ten Squared as the name suggest, has a square that we have to fill up with numbers. We cannot make random moves, for that would be no game at all. Instead we have to choose between two types of moves and fill up the boxes using only that specific move.
To start off, we can place the first number anywhere on the 5×5 square and then proceed from there. In the bridge move, the numbers can be placed three boxes away in the horizontal or vertical direction, and two boxes away diagonally. The other move is the knight move, and here we can move in an L-shaped direction anywhere we see fit.
If we are able to fill up the entire square without making any wrong moves, we progress on to the next level. This gives us the choice of a square with higher dimensions, the ultimate being a 10×10 square. However, if we make a fatal move and are struck in a rut, we are out of the game.
If we are unsatisfied with a move we made, we can use the eraser to undo it. Or if the entire game looks like a mess, we can shake the device to start all over again. And if we can’t think of the next move at all, the hint option comes in handy to go further.
The sound effects tab at the top of the screen takes care of turning it on or off. The music tab next to it enables us to select music from our playlist, with a third tab to pause or play it.
The top ten best results are displayed in the app, so that is a good way to check if we are among the ten best square movers around. Ten Squared has booked itself a place on my good-pastime games list with its interesting game play. Check out and see if it makes it to your list.
