If you remember playing any of the various snowboarding games on the original Playstation, MyTP Snowboarding just might take you for a stroll down memory lane. This v.1.0.0 release by randerline starts off with a neat introductory montage of actual snowboarding footage. There are two modes available to play, World Tour and QuickPlay. The 3D graphics are simple but clean, reminiscent of a time before high-definition gaming. The background music changes with the slopes, however you have the ability to change the song by shaking the iPhone. There isn’t an option to play your own music while playing the game yet, but you can turn off both the background music and the sound effects in the settings menu. The variety of characters (including 3 pros) and 10 different snowboards are available to you from the start, and even though the choices are limited, it still presents a nice variation from the “unlockables” trend we’ve all grown used to.
The controls are given before the start of the run as a diagram. MyTP Snowboarding makes use of the accelerometer for maneuvering your character and the touch screen for doing tricks. You tilt/turn to veer left or right and your thumb placement on the screen determines which trick you perform. This might be hard to decipher at first but becomes easier as you get more acquainted with the game. With over 500 tricks to attempt and plenty of half-pipes and ramps to try them on, MyTP provides enough for a quick, fun and straightforward powder time.
Priced at $2.99, MyTP Snowboarding is a solid, albeit limited game. With 3 resorts, 9 slopes and 9 missions, its features (or lack thereof) may leave something to be desired, but nothing I figure future potential updates can’t remedy. Check out the clip below of the potential things you can do with MyTP Snowboarding.
